OpenCRM Version 4 takes all the great features and functionality you already love and puts it into a more user friendly interface. This has meant that the skin of OpenCRM has changed quite substantially, with most of our previously exposed navigation collapsed into streamlined menus. Coming face to face with this new interface can be a little daunting, which is why we created this FAQ is to guide you through the changes made and help you learn where all of your favourite tools now live. What is included in this FAQ:
Sidebar NavigationThe first new feature you’re probably going to notice is our V4 sidebar. In addition to holding general navigation, this sidebar also contains our most popular widgets from our old sidebar. Let’s start with how to get around the system.
And now to discuss the expanded sidebar:If you click the expand hamburger icon at the top of the sidebar, it will slide out and present you with the following: Clicking the names or arrow icons on any of the four sidebar widgets with right side arrows will expand them. This will give you a sidebar that allows you to navigate with a single click should you need to...it's easier to show you: You can see that this sidebar is scrollable with the centre wheel on your mouse, so you don't have to worry about accidentally "hiding" things. It is also sticky, so however you leave it when you sign out of OpenCRM, it will remain that way for your user, until you change it. The bottom three icons will collapse the sidebar (and it will remain collapsed until you click the hamburger icon at the top again). These widgets are not currently compatible with an expanded sidebar, but it is on our roadmap to explore doing so. SearchingOne of the things that has moved out of the sidebar is the eternally useful Global Search. Now, instead of being tucked way, it has a prominent position right at the top of the screen. Just click within the box and hit enter. It will search the key modules of your system to save you having to click into both Leads and Contacts, for example, to find someone’s details.
Filtering in the CalendarThe ability to filter your Calendar view has been retained in full, but instead of cluttering up the screen, we've moved it into a lightbox.
Once you click it, you will see this lightbox where you can choose to filter by Activity Type, Status, Category, and Assigned to: You can find more information about the new Calendar in this article.
Keyboard ShortcutsWe’ve added a couple keyboard shortcuts to OpenCRM as part of our Version 4 release. These are “ctrl + k” and “ctrl + g”. Screenshots. The first, which you can also access this by holding the “Ctrl” button on your keyboard and typing “K”, will open a popup that allows you to quickly search for a module in the system. The second, ctrl + g, will simply add your cursor to the global search box at the top of the screen, allowing you to start and complete a search without ever having to leave your keyboard. You can find more information about keyboard shortcuts in this article.
![]() Settling inIf you’re looking to edit your own user details, change the settings of your system, or brush up on your OpenCRM knowledge, you can access all of this through the new user menu in the top right of your screen. This is also where administrators can go to access the Settings area of the system. Your logo will sit to the right of this menu. You may also be interested in:
